HALLMARK CHANNEL AND HALLMARK MOVIES & MYSTERIES

By Kellie Freeze

Just in time for Thanksgiving, Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries present their biggest week of holiday programming ever. This feast of festive films falls during Hallmark’s Big Bonanza, which celebrates its “9 Nights, 12 Movies, 2 Networks, 1 Christmas” event.

The capstone of the week is Saturday’s presentation of Hallmark Channel’s Christmas Everlasting, a Hallmark Hall of Fame film starring Tatyana Ali, Dondré T. Whitfield, Dennis Haysbert and Patti LaBelle.

Ali stars as Lucy Toomey, a successful New York lawyer who learns that her older sister with special needs has passed away. When she returns to her small Wisconsin hometown to mourn and take care of her sister’s estate, she discovers a unique stipulation in her sister’s will that forces her to live in her childhood home through the holidays, come to terms with her past, and get to know her sister and her lasting legacy.

Ali is thrilled to become part of the legacy of the Hallmark Hall of Fame franchise. “I grew up with the Hallmark Hall of Fame,” she says, and reveals that she and her costars get to be a part of Hallmark history. “I discovered this is the first time that Hallmark is presenting an African-American love story, and that’s incredibly important,” she shares.

“I know that my family members, my aunts, my cousins and my friends who watch Hallmark during the holidays will be so excited to be able to see themselves represented on the channel and in such a beautiful way.”

The week also includes Hallmark Channel’s Sunday presentation of Christmas in Evergreen: Letters to Santa, the follow-up to last year’s Christmas in Evergreen. Jill Wagner stars as Lisa Palmer, whose holiday trip home to Evergreen finds her shepherding an effort to save the town’s beloved general store and fulfilling the wishes of a forgotten letter to Santa. “The letter gives Lisa an idea of how to sell the store by infusing the town with old traditions,” explains Wagner. Ashley Williams, Holly Robinson Peete, Barbara Niven and Mark Deklin also star.
