"Antiques Roadshow" gives new meaning to its tagline, “Discovering America’s hidden treasures!” In the series’ first-ever two-part special, “Our 50 States,” the series brings history into focus with 50 favorite treasures representing our unique national character and celebrating the stories of America.
“When reviewing these appraisals from each state as a group, a captivating look at our country emerged as the objects and anecdotes revealed our collective experience,” says Marsha Bemko. “As Executive Producer, I felt compelled to share these family tales, historical lessons and glimpses of triumph over trial that seem so important to us now as a nation.”
Across the two-episode special, fans will see nation-shaping appraisals including:
• An 1870 print showing African-American troops and fraternal organizations marching in celebration of the 15th Amendment.
• A 1931 Carnegie Hero Medal, given to the guest’s grandfather who had bravely volunteered to be lowered by rope to rescue a baby who had fallen into a well.
• An 1862 Lincoln-signed document appointing the ancestor of a ROADSHOW guest to a three-person commission charged with addressing the work around the then-recent abolition of slavery in Washington D. C.
• A rare American women’s suffrage poster, ca. 1905, depicting one of the most popular and important images of the movement.
