Premieres Friday, February 23 on Netflix
Netflix is getting messy as they flip our understanding upside down of what a food docu-series should be with its new culinary phenomenon, UGLY DELICIOUS. From James Beard Award-Winning Chef David Chang (Momofuku) and Academy Award-winning producer Morgan Neville, comes a culinary experience that will challenge our taste buds and minds, as David continues to defy the status quo. Ugly Delicious does not play by the rules or expectations when it comes to delicious food, it creates them.
Chang, along with other renowned chefs, industry leaders and celebrity guests, including Jimmy Kimmel, Chef René Redzepi and legendary writer Ruth Reichl, come together to debate and define comfort food as a vehicle to discuss cultural and political issues around the world and explore the cultural traditions, flavors, and shared experiences that unite us all.
Throughout the docu-series, food is ultimately used as a bridge between different cultures, providing a way for others to relate to one another through shared life experiences through one important ingredient: food. More than just a food show, Ugly Delicious identifies ways to break down cultural barriers, tackle the misconceptions around food and its aesthetics, and bring to light the cultural traditions and stories that are often not told.
Over eight episodes, David travels the world with writers and chefs, activists and artists, who use food as a vehicle to break down cultural barriers, tackle misconceptions and uncover shared experiences. Ugly Delicious ventures out of polished kitchens into the wider world to explore Viet-Cajun cuisine in Houston, Neapolitan Pizza in Tokyo, home cooking in Copenhagen, and much more.
