Premieres Tuesday, April 10 at 10 PM ET/PT on BET
BET’s new series “In Contempt” is an hour-long procedural set in the fast-paced world of a legal aid office in New York City. Created by showrunner Terri Kopp, a former member of the Legal Aid Society in Manhattan, the series follows Gwen Sullivan, played by breakout star Erica Ash (“Survivor’s Remorse”), an opinionated and outspoken attorney whose passion for her job and clients makes her arguably the most talented public defender in her district. The series is a departure from the typical law office setting.
Along with the complicated cases she tackles, Gwen must also manage the various personalities and challenges at the office, which include Charlie, (Christian Keys) the undeserving but still newly appointed supervisor who also happens to be her ex-boyfriend; snarky, seductive attorney Tracy (Megan Hutchings); and the rookie without a clue, Vanessa (Mouna Traoré). Outside of work, her former law professor and the “one that got away,” Bennett (Tobias Truvillion), has returned to the city to shadow public defenders for his new book. Other stars include Ronnie Rowe Jr. (“Star Trek: Discovery”), Richard Lawson (poltergeist, “Real Husbands of Hollywood”), and Tasha Smith (“Why Did I Get Married?”).
