Widowed father of two Robert Trent (Eric Close) is perpetually disorganized and finds balancing his family life with his job as a toy inventor at his family business increasingly difficult. When a potential client plans to visit Robert and his brother George (Ken Tremblett) before the holidays, and the added work causes Robert to miss his daughter’s play rehearsal, he seeks the help of professional organizer Lydia Evans (Catherine Bell).
Lydia has a system and an app for everything. She helps Robert organize his life, home, and dinner that he and George will host for the potential client, Mr. Hennessey (Malcolm Stewart), and his wife. Robert is impressed with her work, though taken aback when Lydia rearranges a collection of snow globes. He opens up to Lydia about his late wife and how he arranges the snow globes just like she did. The two bond over a mutual fascination for the brightest star, Sirius, and even George and Lydia’s friend Pam (Emily Holmes) notice the chemistry.
With Lydia’s help, Robert focuses and delivers on his promise to make cookies for his kids –inspiring Lydia to find the joy in their less than perfect shape. Lydia bonds with Robert’s children Amelia (Trinity Rose Likens) and Thomas (Jesse Filkow). Amelia even confides in Lydia her fear that her dad will miss her Christmas play. When Lydia visit’s Robert’s office, she is impressed by his toy inventions, and decides that his office should remain a messy, creative space. Robert and Lydia have a test run of the holiday dinner, which not only goes well, but also further fans their romantic flames.
