The holiday season has once again descended upon the Big Apple and aspiring actress Charlotte Miller (Maggie Lawson) has another audition, this one for a local department store commercial. Yet again, she doesn’t get the job and so she continues to work as a waitress, like all those other struggling actors. When she meets her college friend Rachel (Sabryn Rock), who is visiting from Chicago, Rachel tells Charlotte she thinks she would be perfect for a job at her company. Weary from her constant struggle to make it as an actress over the years, Charlotte agrees to meet with Rachel’s boss on the woman’s trip to NY.
When Charlotte opens up to her manager at the café about wondering whether it is time to give up on her dream, he reminds her of her own mantra, “I’m just one audition away from the big one.” Over at the Grand Repertory Company’s annual Christmas party, TV star Julian Walker (Brennan Elliott), whose father was a founding director at the off-Broadway theatre, is back to direct this year’s production of A Christmas Carol. Julian announces to the entire company that this year he wants to do something original and daring with the production.
Julian bumps into Charlotte at the café and the two recall being scene partners in acting class some years ago. In fact, they were paired for a big audition a few years back and Charlotte blames Julian for her not getting the job. She’s embarrassed to still be waiting tables while he has made it big, but Julian can’t seem to take his eyes off her. When his show announces open auditions, Julian makes certain that Charlotte’s agent is contacted to arrange an audition for her. When she enters the audition and sees that Julian is the director, she bolts. But Julian goes after her and convinces her to audition. What ensues could involved much more than getting the part.
