A film crew has arrived in Lawrenceton to shoot a movie based on a book by Robin Daniels (Robin Dunne), a mystery writer who briefly dated Aurora Teagarden (Candace Cameron Bure). In fact, the movie is about a crime-solving librarian, obviously inspired by Aurora’s own unique exploits. On the first day of filming, however, the movie’s leading lady, actress Celia Shaw is found in her dressing room, the victim of a brutal murder.
Her interest piqued, as it always is whenever a murder hits close to home, Aurora soon finds herself involved with finding out who murdered the woman who was to play her on the silver screen. With everyone on the set that day a suspect, Aurora is concerned that mom Aida (Marilu Henner) is spending a lot of time with the movie’s director Joel Parker (Barclay Hope). Martin (Yannick Bisson), who is consumed in a case of his own, becomes convinced the killer could well be Aurora’s old flame, Robin Daniels, and repeatedly cautions her about him.
With the help of members of the Real Murders Club, some of whom are working on the film set, Aurora begins to assemble her list of suspects, seeking out motives for each. The director, the producer, the jealous co-star who lost the lead to Celia and, as much as she wants to believe otherwise, even Robin, all have reasons they might have wanted the temperamental starlet dead.
In her thoroughly unconventional way, Aurora begins to get to the bottom of the case, even as danger surrounds her. Following a harrowing confrontation with the shadowy figure that has been following her, Aurora is the only one who thinks the killer is still out there. And what she knows, along with what she is about to discover, just might make her the next off-screen victim on this movie.
