"The Johnny Cash Show"
Starting Sunday, July 8 at 10 PM ET/PT on getTV
Superstar Johnny Cash headlined this Emmy-nominated variety series for two seasons, offering an eclectic mix of musical genres with some of the biggest stars of the era. The show originally air from 1969 to 1971.
“The Man In Black” also chats, shares stories, and performs with many of his guests including June Carter Cash, a star in her own right as a member of The Carter Family. June and John had married a year before the series debuted, and their adorably lighthearted chemistry softens Cash’s natural gravitas. The Statler Brothers, whom Cash discovered in 1964 and used as his opening act while touring, were regulars, along with “Rockabilly” legend Carl Perkins, Cash’s former labelmate at Sun Records. And ever-present was The Tennessee Three (Marshall Grant, W.S. Holland and Bob Wootton), Cash’s backing band.

Recorded before a live audience at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium when it was still home to the Grand Old Opry, The Johnny Cash Show facilitated the popular country artist’s mainstream crossover and inspired a chart-topping album of the same name in 1970 from Columbia Records.
Notable guest stars over the original two seasons included Roy Orbison, Loretta Lynn, Ray Charles, Kris Kristofferson, Ricky Nelson, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Neil Diamond, Tammy Wynette, Merle Haggard, Anne Murray, Chet Atkins, Phil Harris, Doug Kershaw. Now getTV brings those memorable variety show episodes back for our enjoyment.
