Eden Lake, Minnesota is buzzing with excitement as local celebrity baker and owner of The Cookie Jar, Hannah Swensen (Alison Sweeney), launches Eden Lake’s first-ever televised “Red Hawk Flour Bake-off” bake off – with $25,000 and the cover of Chef magazine as first prize. The contest will air on local station KNWK, which shares studio space with Eden Lake High School. As the semi-finals approach, odd things start happening to the judges: Hannah suffers an accident on her basement stairs that is no accident; Charles Rutledge (Paul Batten) is poisoned; then replacement judge, Eden Lake High basketball coach Leonard Bishop (Kurt Evans), is found dead in the middle of the track field, the victim of a vehicular hit-and-run.

Soon, detective Mike Kingston (Cameron Mathison), who Hannah is now officially dating, is on the case. It’s only natural that Hannah’s appetite for crime-solving is piqued by the murder of one of her judges, so it isn’t long before she begins her own “unofficial” investigation as Mike pursues the killer. As Hannah and Mike mix business and pleasure, the attraction between them grows, albeit with a few emotional bumps along the way. As the investigation launches, Bishop’s wife (Tammy Gillis), with whom he was seen arguing, is the prime suspect. However, as Hannah and Mike delve deeper into the case – each in their own way – the field of suspects widens to include at least one of the baking contestants, and even one of the players on Bishop’s basketball team.
As she usually does, Hannah enlists the help of her sister, Andrea (Lisa Durupt), handsome pal Norman (Gabriel Hogan) and brother-in-law Bill (Toby Levins) to help her implement her own unorthodox investigation methods, including impersonating a vindictive wife, dumpster diving, and swiping tainted medication. Just as determined to solve this case as Mike, Hannah realizes who murdered Coach Bishop moments before she goes on camera at the live bake-off finals, and the killer is right there in the crowd gathered for the bake-off. Soon, Hannah is in hot pursuit, but when the killer produces a gun and begins targeting Hannah, it’s up to Mike to apprehend the killer before Hannah becomes the next victim – and to take their relationship to the next level.
