In the 9 PM episode, "One for the Ages," Boden takes a big step in the pursuit of a major career decision. Kidd becomes increasingly distrustful of Renee's (guest star Sarah Shahi) motives with Severide. Herrmann has trouble bouncing back after a tragedy.
Then, in the 10 PM season finale, "The Grand Gesture," Boden's chances for a promotion are met with potential complications, leading him to take matters into his own hands. Dawson and Casey don't see eye to eye on an important decision, while Kidd finds herself struggling to find time with Severide. Brett and Dawson respond to a tough call that quickly turns dangerous.

As chief of 51, Boden keeps his house running smoothly and his firefighters prepared to overcome all adversity. Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund) returns alongside Paramedic Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer), seasoned veteran Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) and resourceful firefighter Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), Randy “Mouch” McHolland (Christian Stolte), Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) and Brian “Otis” Zvonecek (Yuri Sardarov).
