“The Magicians"
Premieres Monday, January 25 at 9 PM ET/PT on Syfy

Based on Lev Grossman’s New York Times best-selling fantasy trilogy, “The Magicians” centers on Quentin Coldwater, a brilliant grad student chosen to attend Brakebills University for Magical Pedagogy, a secret upstate New York university specializing in magic. He and his 20-something friends soon discover that the magical fantasy world they read about as children is all too real – and poses grave danger to humanity.

In the premiere episode, “Unauthorized Magic,” best of friends Quentin and Julia, are mysteriously recruited to take an entrance exam to Brakebills University, a secret institution for magical pedagogy. Once there, Quentin and fellow students Alice, Penny, Margo and Eliot hone their skills, test their mettle and form new (and often times, problematic) relationships, all while facing a dangerous and deadly threat from a magical world. Meanwhile, Quentin's friend Julia - rejected from Brakebills - pursues magic on her own down a dark, often dangerous, path.

The cast includes Jason Ralph (“Aquarius,” “Madam Secretary”), Stella Maeve (“Chicago PD,” “Golden Boy”), Olivia Taylor Dudley (“The Vatican Tapes,” “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension”), Hale Appleman (“Teeth,” “Smash”), Arjun Gupta (“Nurse Jackie,” “How to Get Away with Murder”) and Summer Bishil (“Lucky 7,” “90210”).
