In the 9 PM episode, “Yes Means Yes,” when Maxine's (Amber Stevens West) friend posts about her sexual assault on social media, Jerrod (Jerrod Carmichael) and Maxine end up on opposite sides of the issue. This opens the family up to a debate about consent that sends Bobby (Lil Rel Howery) into a spiral. Also starring David Alan Grier, Loretta Devine and Tiffany Haddish.
In the 9:30 PM episode, “Support the Troops,” when Jerrod gets into a fight with a soldier in front of Joe (Grier) and Bobby (Howery), Joe's desire to make it up to the soldier causes problems that test the limits of what it means to truly support the troops.
Inspired by the life of comedian Jerrod Carmichael, the series follows Jerrod and his opinionated North Carolina family as they navigate topics that all families face today in America. Nothing is too uncomfortable to explore, including police protests, guns and religion. Jerrod often finds himself debating such issues with his old-school father, Joe, his devoutly religious mother, Cynthia, his progressive live-in girlfriend, Maxine, his recently separated brother, Bobby, and Bobby’s estranged and outspoken wife, Nekeisha. And somewhere in the middle of all of their disagreeing is the heart of this family.
