Empire is a powerful drama about a family dynasty set within the glamorous and sometimes dangerous world of hip-hop music, the show revolves around the Lyons and their media company, Empire Entertainment.
Last season, Empire’s explosive twists and turns continued, as Empire Entertainment embarked on a celebration of its 20th anniversary. Lucious (Terrence Howard) made his first public appearance after the explosion in Las Vegas. While Lucious struggled with his recovery, Cookie (Golden Globe winner Taraji P. Henson) began to revisit the most challenging time of her life – her 17 years in prison – in a series of flashbacks.
Throughout last season, Lucious, Cookie and their three sons were forced to take a hard look at their choices, both past and present, in order to secure their legacy and save their Empire, which included a hostile takeover.
The season five premiere episode, “Steal From the Thief,” begins two years after losing Empire to Eddie Barker (guest star Forest Whitaker) and Cookie and Lucious are still in the midst of picking up the pieces. The family is now completely dispersed and coping in their own ways after experiencing unimaginable tragedies. Meanwhile, in an effort to reclaim the Lyons' position in the music industry, Cookie sets her eyes on a talented new singer and rapper, Treasure (guest star Kaitlynn Simone).
